Meet Leonardo

Leonardo Ramos continuously demonstrates his commitment and loyalty to CDI Labs. He shows a desire to learn and always drives for self-improvement. Leonardo has been a member of the CDI Labs team for almost 17 years!

Tell us about your role at CDI Labs?

My Role as Quality Assurance lead is to ensure that all laboratories at CDI Labs are in good regulatory compliance. I manage instrument maintenance and purchases, ensure that all facilities are properly equipped and functioning according to the laws and regulations, verify the procedures for compliance with the requirements of good documentation practices, ensure a safe environment for all employees, and generate procedures and SOPs. I also act as a client liaison to ensure that customer studies comply with client requirements and regulations.

What's the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is the ability to perform different tasks and the opportunity to grow professionally in the same company. I continue to gain knowledge and expertise in different areas of the biotechnology industry; scientific, quality compliance, managerial, supply chain management and safety. In the present, I continue redefining my knowledge and skills to introduce new levels of compliance and regulation standardization to our company.

Why did you join CDI Labs?

Before starting at the CDI Labs, I was a student at the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez Campus. I decided to join CDI Labs to have the opportunity to join a new “from-scratch” research laboratory. I wanted to make a difference and creating and developing something new appealed more than working somewhere else where everything is already created and in place.

How do you see your career developing at CDI Labs?

I see my career growing in the Quality Department through the implementation of the International Organization for Standardization, generating new job opportunities, and elevating the Quality Department to the highest regulatory level of compliance.

What do you do for fun?

My favorite activities outside of work are connecting with nature, doing sports (gym, running, swimming, trails hiking, riding bikes), road trips, visiting the rivers and the beach, and visiting my parents and family. I really enjoy doing outdoor activities and keeping a healthy lifestyle.

If you could cure any disease, what would it be and why?

For sure cancer is the disease that I would like to cure. It is an extremely difficult disease to treat, and identifying the cause can be difficult due to the multiple factors that can cause it. More research is critical to further the understanding of the disease and to unlock new treatments and new tests for early detection.

Who is your favorite influencer and why?

My favorite influencer is Richard Branson because of the way he sees life and how he motivates others in their personal or professional development. I also admire the organization he developed to help keep the oceans healthy and clean.

What would be your best career advice?

The best advice that I can give is to follow your dreams and trust the process. Sometimes things are hard, and that day is when you need to put all your effort into succeeding and doing your best. Understanding where you’re at and where you want to be is the most important motivation that you will get, and it will give you direction.
