Meet Pedro


Passionate, driven and eager to explore are all adjectives that describe Pedro Ramos and how he works and lives his life. Pedro joined CDI Labs in 2011 after completing his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Microbiology at the University of Puerto Rico – Mayagüez.


What is your role at CDI Labs?


I'm the Lead Proteomics Scientist in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. In my role, I oversee all aspects of service and experimentation utilizing the world's most comprehensive human protein microarray, the HuProt. As the CDI Labs Lead Proteomics Scientist, I also manage personnel; achieve monthly and quarterly milestones; handle and process human samples over the human microarrays; analyze data; present study findings to customers, conduct research and development studies, and engage in customer communication regarding study reports and related topics.


What's the best part of your job?


My position offers a dynamic and fulfilling experience that aligns perfectly with my passion. The peak of satisfaction in my role lies in steering innovation, leading a team of highly skilled individuals, and communicating groundbreaking scientific findings. Furthermore, by harnessing the latest advancements in proteomics technology, I am driven by the opportunity to engage in interesting research and comprehensive data analysis. This multifaceted involvement not only stimulates my intellectual curiosity but also empowers me to play a pivotal role in advancing scientific knowledge.


What did you do before joining CDI Labs?


I was a very passionate college student with a profound passion for biotechnology who was dedicating my efforts to the processes of cloning bacteria for protein expression within bioreactors, as well as the subsequent purification of these proteins.


How do you see your career developing at CDI Labs?


I envision my career at CDI Labs as an exciting journey of growth and contribution. With my background in biotechnology and the powerful experiences gained so far, I am eager to keep leveraging my skills in a dynamic and innovative environment. I want to keep actively contributing to the cutting-edge projects undertaken by the company and collaborating with a team of experts.






What do you do outside of work?


I love spending time with my family, such as traveling or even road trips here in the island. During my free time, you'll often find me on the Pickleball court, playing the sport with good friends.


If you could cure any disease, what would it be and why?


If granted the opportunity to eradicate a disease, I would focus on Alzheimer's due to its significant impact on cognitive function and quality of life. This condition not only affects individuals but also places emotional and logistical challenges on caregivers and families. Eliminating Alzheimer's would not only preserve cognitive vitality but also advance our understanding of neurodegenerative processes, paving the way for improved brain health and enhanced quality of life across populations.


Who is your favorite influencer and why?


I deeply respect Steve Jobs for his unique thinking and how he changed industries with his innovative mindset. He created experiences that changed how we live with technology. His dedication to perfection and simplicity sets a standard that continues to inspire me.


What would be your best career advice?


Keep learning as you advance in your career. Actively seek chances to grow your skills. Networking is crucial – build professional relationships for opportunities and insights. Stay adaptable in the changing professional landscape. Be open to challenges; growth often comes through adapting to change for success in your career.
