Meet Shuang

Shuang Liu is a nature lover and avid reader. Shuang has a world-class knowledge in the field of microarray printing, yet he is still eager to learn and grow. Shuang has been a member of the CDI Labs team for over 5 years.

What is your role at CDI Labs?

I build and optimize the protein microarray pipelines, lead the HuProt Human Protein Microarray and Focused Array production, and ensure that the printers are maintained and in good working order. Additionally, I'm involved in research and development (R&D) and client projects at CDI Labs, including communications with clients and troubleshooting of array products and services.

What’s the best part of your job?

Working with people from different fields and cultures, being able to chill in the cold room, and having fun while learning and troubleshooting.

Why did you join CDI Labs?

Before joining CDI Labs, I built an optical biosensor platform during my PhD program based on protein/DNA microarray technology. This platform enabled label-free and real-time detection of biomolecular kinetics and affinity. Following my PhD, I embarked on a postdoc journey focusing on label-free method applications for research use, such as monoclonal antibody affinity, protein-protein interactions, and DNA-protein assays, at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. I joined CDI Labs to further contribute my expertise in this field.

How do you see your career developing at CDI Labs?

I feel that I have been growing along with CDI Labs and it is my honor to work with many lovely and talented colleagues. I look forward to experiencing further personal career growth at CDI Labs.

What do you do for fun?

I’m a nature lover - hiking into the woods is the best meditation. Bouldering from V0 to V4 in 2023 makes me very happy and proud. Having a lot of fun with friends and families in the rock-climbing gym. Reading, always reading.

If you could cure any disease, what would it be and why?

Alzheimer's disease (AD) - memory is a precious aspect of a human being, and I am inspired by the movie 'Coco' to value and preserve the memories that define us and connect others.

Who is your favorite influencer and why?

Adam Grant – what I have learnt from Adam is that being open minded is not only a mindset or an idea, there is also a scientific way to practice it. People can always ‘rethink’ what they think.

What would be your best career advice?

Be self-aware and be assertive, and listen to some good podcasts.
