Discovering Biomarkers, Cross-Reacting Antibodies, and More with Human Proteome Microarrays and Virion Display Arrays

HuProt human proteome microarrays have become a crucial tool in the study of proteins in an unbiased, high-throughput manner, as they allow for the characterization of over 20,000 individually purified human proteins in parallel. The adaptability of this technology has enabled its use in a variety of applications, including the study of proteome-wide molecular interactions, analysis of post-translational modifications, identification of novel drug targets, and, in particular, serological biomarker identification, especially for autoimmune diseases and cancers.

In this presentation, Heng Zhu, professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Molecular Sciences at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, will provide a brief history of proteome array development and highlight two studies illustrating the use of HuProt arrays in biomarker identification in lung cancer and the characterization of cross-reacting antibodies in severe alcoholic hepatitis. Zhu will also introduce the Virion Display (VirD) technology, demonstrate its applications in analyzing multi-path transmembrane proteins, such as GPCRs, and discuss the future directions of functional protein microarrays.
